Behind the Scenes: My New Black Rose Crochet Cardigan

Behind the Scenes: My New Black Rose Crochet Cardigan

One of my absolute favorite projects to make while on the go is my Crocheted Rose Cardigan. It’s the perfect take-anywhere project because all I need is my favorite 5.0 Furls copper crochet hook and a skein of yarn, both of which live in my handbag. Whether I’m waiting for my kids to finish volleyball or gymnastics practice, sitting in the school carline, riding shotgun while my husband chauffeurs us around town, or unwinding with my favorite TV show, you can bet I’m crocheting a rose. (For the record, the cream-colored Rose Garden Cardigan was finished during Love Is Blind, Season 9.)

Each cardigan is made up of 61 individual squares, and every single square features a luxe 3D rose. After creating the rose, I add two rounds of green and finish with a round in my base color. Once all the squares are done and blocked, I join them together and add a thick, cozy ribbed edging. And then… it’s time to weave in the ends. I won’t pretend that part is my favorite—but it’s always worth it. Those final finishing touches are what transform a fun project into a true wearable piece of art.

Right now, I’m working on a stunning black rose cardigan featuring deep black roses, ombré green accents, and a cream base with a hint of metallic gold. I am so excited about this one. It feels bold, dramatic, and elegant—perfect for everyday wear with jeans or as a standout statement piece layered over a little black dress for a night out.

I’m halfway through the squares, and also halfway finished with Physical: Asia. I'm aiming to have this beauty ready to list in the shop by December 1st. I can’t wait to share the finished piece with you!
